Enact true mastery-based grading pedagogy with reports that use words like "Expert" and "Proficient" instead of letter grades or percentages. Customize the terms for your classroom culture.
Engage students in the standards
Clearly communicate the learning standards and highlight where students have been successful and what they need to do to grow. Ask students to respond and reflect on their own progress.
Flexibility to determine mastery grades
Use the most recent grade, most consistent grade, or an average to determine a student's final course or unit grade. Set some assignments as formative and others as summative to encourage a growth mindset.
